Policy - Workplace Harassment and Violence Policy and Procedures

Every worker has a right to work in a respectful, healthy and safe environment where harassment, discrimination, bullying, threats and violence are not tolerated. The Occupational Health and Safety Act (“OHSA”) creates a statutory duty for York Region Standard Condominium Corporation No. 1257 (the “Corporation”) to prevent and protect against harassment and violence in the workplace. The Corporation defines “worker” to include its directors, members of the property management team, superintendent, other employees, contractors, suppliers and agents. Accordingly, the attached document sets out our policies and programs pertaining to harassment and violence in the workplace.

Harassment can consist of yelling, profanity and abusive language, embarrassing, humiliating, demeaning, degrading, rude or offensive comments, yelling, slamming doors and disrespectful conduct, especially in front of other people. Spreading malicious rumours in the community about a worker can also constitute harassment.

Please note that nothing in this document limits the right of any person to pursue any remedies available under any Canadian legislation.
